Any of the cases I get in, I only believe parts of the stories I am told. I let the animal tell me the truth.
This is Zoey,, my observation of Zoey is this and I'll leave the story I was told out...
Zoey was picked up by a friend of the rescue who offered to go get her as they wanted her gone NOW. She was pregnant and her teats already hung to the ground so this was not her first litter of pups and for maybe being 3 yrs old that is disgusting, her eyes were just total fear showing but a huge emptiness as well.. As I was checking her over I saw a line of black on her belly and being around it, I knew what it was. It was hundreds of fleas just sucking the life out of her at her belly button. A hole was burrowed where they were all sucking off her. This could have made her anemic and killed the pups and her if left untreated. She was extremely under weight for carrying a litter of pups and gums showed she was not feeling well. After a long bath and combing out the remaining fleas she smelled and felt a ton better.
A few days later Zoey had her pups, not nearly enough time for me to put any weight on her but it took her all day but she finally had them. 7 in all for her little size. They all looked really good and of course there was a runt that had a snub of a tail and was half the size of the rest. We lost the battle with her last Sunday......................................
Needless to say with observing Zoey, she was out to kill my cats and anything else that moved around here as she was obviously taught to chase or attack other animals.. I have been working on that successfully and she has became a incredible little girl.. She is very smart and just looked for someone to love her and give her the time and attention any animal deserves... She no longer chases anything here but me. To see that sparkle in her eyes and the excitement she shows me when she sees me and the fun she has when we play is thanks enough for taking her.. Every animal deserves this love and attn.. I don't know why there are so many people out there that use them as breeding factories with no regard for their lives. Put yourself in their paws and step back and think.......... Zoey has been ADOPTED!!!!
